The conference is free and is open to all ASU faculty, staff and students.  Registration is required.

8:30 - 9:30 a.m.Email Communication & Professionalism: Improve How You Look on Outlook

Presenter: Karen Engler-Weber

Email is arguably the predominant form of business communication in the work environment.  In fact, sometimes the only interaction we have with individuals is by email.  As a result, how we write and send emails impacts not only the way that we are perceived by others, but also how our communication skills are evaluated.  In this important workshop, Karen Engler-Weber will discuss issues with email communication, and will outline specific strategies on how to make your emails more effective, and how to improve how you are perceived by email.

Self Efficacy: The Key to Motivating Yourself & Others

Presenter: Kristin Hoffner

Self-Efficacy: The Key to Motivating Yourself & Others”: This session will present the concept of self-efficacy and the importance of fostering it for motivation and overall mental health. We will discuss tangible examples for how to raise self-efficacy in ourselves and others. Further, we will identify our own behavioral tendencies and self talk patterns, and discuss the impact of these on our intrinsic drive and well being.

Presenter: Elaine Rostad, Senior Director, Academic Services, College of Health Solutions

Q-TIP Quit Taking it Personally! & Other salient principals for navigating today’s office. In this interactive presentation, we’ll discuss some of the important principals we all have to remember in our professional lives. Points discussed will be audience driven but will likely include topics around leadership, promotion/advancement, effective networking, office politics, morale, healthy venting and reputation. The goal of this talk is to reinforce the positive and healthy behaviors necessary to make our working lives better and to mitigate the negative effects of the unhealthy behaviors that can damage your reputation and opportunities for advancement.

Luncheon Session

Watch Your Mouth: Dirty Words in Everyday Life

Presenter:  Amanda Voigt

The dirtiest words that we say do not give us a PG-13 rating, but are words we use every day.  I CAN’T do that, I’ll TRY to attend, I HAVE to finish this, I SHOULD do that.  What is the impact of words on our daily lives?  What are the alternatives?  Do our word choices matter?  Attendees will learn how some everyday words have an impact on our attitudes, mindsets, and actions.  Most importantly, we will discuss how choosing different words can have a powerful influence on our everyday lives.

Lunch will be provided.


1:30 - 2:30 p.m.The Secrets of Making and Giving a Great Presentation

Presenter: Rebecca Mallen, Kelly MacCleary and Brandi Caruthers

Regardless if your role is in recruitment, student services, career, administration or any forward facing role- you will likely need to give a presentation at some time or another in your career at ASU.  This workshop will provide you with the tools to ensure that your presentation is memorable, effective and engaging.   For example, attendees will learn common mistakes and how to avoid them; self-awareness, presentation design.  This session will provide an immediate take-away in how to be a more versatile presenter through improv activities, helping attendees think more on their feet.

2:45 - 3:45 p.m.Ugh, Another Meeting: Leading & Managing Effective Meetings

Presenter: Marcus Jones

Do you dread going to meetings because they are endless and wasteful? Do you walk away from meetings thinking that you spent an hour in a conference room only to realize that your meeting is over you don’t have an outcome or next steps?

Do not fret, this workshop is going to cover the basics of having a productive meeting. We will go over the core elements of a successful meeting, including deciding when a meeting needs to happen, and how to maximize your time together whether it be 15 minutes or an hour! We will also briefly discuss how to manage remote attendees.
